Day School™

Real-World Dog Training for Confident, Well-Rounded Companions

Dog training should prepare your dog for the life you actually want to share together.

Day School™ is Connected Canine’s relationship-based dog training program for fully vaccinated puppies, adolescent dogs, and adult dogs. Through individualized training, real-world practice, and thoughtful skill building, we help dogs become confident, reliable companions who can happily exist in their owner’s day-to-day life.

This is not just obedience training. This is about opening your dog’s world beyond the front door.

Why Day School™ Exists

Many dogs know a few commands at home but struggle when life gets more distracting.

They may pull on leash, struggle to settle in public, become overly excited around people or dogs, ignore cues outside the house, or feel unsure in new environments. For many families, the goal is not perfection. The goal is a dog who can comfortably participate in everyday life.

Day School™ was created to help dogs build the skills, confidence, and communication needed for the real world.

Our goal is to help dogs become well-rounded companions who can enjoy life with their families, whether that means walking through the neighborhood, relaxing on a patio, visiting a pet-friendly store, joining family outings, or simply feeling calmer and more connected at home.

At Connected Canine, we believe training should create more freedom, more trust, and a deeper relationship between dogs and their humans.

Because Connection Comes First.

Is Day School™ Right for My Dog?

Day School™ is designed for fully vaccinated dogs of all ages who are ready for structured, individualized training.

This program may be a good fit if:

  • Your dog needs better everyday manners
  • Your dog struggles to focus around distractions
  • Your dog pulls on leash
  • Your dog has trouble settling in public
  • Your dog gets overly excited around people or dogs
  • Your dog needs more confidence in new environments
  • Your dog has completed puppy training and is ready for the next step
  • Your dog is working toward AKC Canine Good Citizen goals
  • Your dog needs help applying skills outside the home
  • Your dog would benefit from structured learning, enrichment, and real-world practice
  • You want your dog to become a more confident companion in daily life

Every dog begins with an evaluation so we can understand their needs, temperament, learning history, and your goals before recommending the right path.

How Day School™ Works

Day School™ is built around individualized learning and progressive goals. Every dog is different, so every training plan is tailored to the dog in front of us.

Step 1: Evaluation

We begin with an evaluation to learn about your dog, your goals, and the challenges you are experiencing.

This helps us determine the best starting point and whether your dog is ready for Day School™ or would benefit from a different Connected Canine program.

Step 2: Program Placement

After the evaluation, your dog is placed into the appropriate Day School™ path based on their current skills, behavior, confidence, and goals.

Some dogs begin with foundational manners. Others may be ready for more advanced public skills. Dogs with behavior concerns may need a more specialized plan.

Step 3: Day School™: Foundations

Foundations focuses on communication, everyday manners, and reliable life skills.

Dogs in this stage build the skills needed to become more connected, responsive, and manageable in daily life while preparing for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title.

This level may include:

  • Attention and engagement
  • Loose leash walking
  • Polite greetings
  • Settling
  • Recall foundations
  • Impulse control
  • Household manners
  • Confidence building
  • Handler focus
  • Everyday reliability

Foundations helps create the communication and consistency your dog needs before moving into more advanced real-world environments.

Step 4: Day School™: Achievement

Achievement helps dogs apply their skills in more distracting public environments.

This stage focuses on taking training beyond familiar spaces and helping dogs remain connected, calm, and responsive around real-world distractions while preparing for the AKC Community Canine (CGCA) title.

This level may include:

  • Public manners
  • Leash skills in busier environments
  • Calm behavior around people
  • Focus around other dogs
  • Patio and park skills
  • Confidence in new places
  • More advanced impulse control
  • Real-world reliability

Achievement is designed for dogs who are ready to practice their skills outside the training environment and begin enjoying more of the world with their families.

Step 5: Day School™: Mastery

Mastery is the highest level of Day School™.

This stage focuses on confidence, reliability, and calm behavior in busy community settings while preparing teams for the AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU) title.

This level may include:

  • Busy public environments
  • Urban walking skills
  • Calm behavior around distractions
  • Reliable responses in changing environments
  • Public settling
  • Confidence in community spaces
  • Advanced leash skills
  • Real-world composure

Mastery helps dogs develop the skills needed to confidently navigate everyday life in more complex environments.

Step 6: Progress Updates and Family Support

Your dog’s success does not depend only on what happens during training.

We keep families informed so you understand what your dog is learning, how they are progressing, and how to support those skills at home. Our goal is to help the training transfer into your daily life, not just stay with the trainer.

Step 7: Graduation and Next Steps

As your dog progresses through Day School™, we help guide the next step in their education.

For some dogs, that may mean continuing through the Connected Learning Path™. For others, it may mean Residency™, Private Training, Therapy Dog Preparation, Service Dog Training, or ongoing support through boarding, daycare, alumni opportunities, or future coaching.

Day School™ is designed to support your dog’s continued growth—not just a single training goal.

What Your Dog Will Learn

Day School™ is individualized to each dog, but every program is built around practical skills that support everyday life.

Communication

Your dog will learn how to better understand and respond to cues, guidance, and feedback while building a stronger connection with their family.

Confidence

We help dogs build confidence through thoughtful exposure, successful experiences, and training that supports emotional well-being.

Everyday Manners

Day School™ supports polite greetings, calm behavior, impulse control, household skills, and better choices in daily life.

Leash Skills

Your dog will work on walking more calmly and staying connected in real-world environments.

Public Skills

Dogs learn how to navigate parks, sidewalks, patios, pet-friendly stores, neighborhoods, and other community spaces with greater confidence and reliability.

Focus Around Distractions

We help dogs practice responding even when life gets exciting, busy, or distracting.

Settling and Relaxation

A well-trained dog does not need to be “on” all the time. Day School™ helps dogs learn how to relax, wait, and be calm when life slows down.

Real-World Reliability

The goal is for your dog’s skills to carry into everyday life with your family—not just show up during training sessions.

Relationship

Training should strengthen your relationship with your dog. Every skill we teach is built around communication, trust, and connection.

Opening Your Dog’s World

For many families, dog training is about more than better behavior.

It is about freedom.

Freedom to take your dog on a walk without constant frustration. Freedom to enjoy a patio without worrying whether your dog can settle. Freedom to welcome guests, visit new places, or include your dog in more of your daily life.

Day School™ helps dogs build the skills they need to experience more of the world with confidence.

That might mean learning to walk calmly through the neighborhood, relax at a coffee shop, focus around distractions, greet people politely, or remain composed in a busy environment.

We do not train dogs to perform only in a facility.

We train dogs for the life they share with their families.

Why Connected Canine?

Connected Canine was built on the belief that lasting training starts with connection.

We do not believe dog training should be generic, rushed, or focused only on compliance. Every dog has their own learning history, temperament, environment, relationship, and goals. That is why Day School™ is individualized to the dog in front of us.

Our approach is:

  • Ethical
  • Relationship-based
  • Individualized
  • Humane
  • Professional
  • Real-world focused
  • Supportive of long-term success

We look at the whole dog, not just the behavior.

That means considering your dog’s confidence, communication, emotional state, environment, developmental stage, and relationship with their family.

Day School™ is designed to help dogs become more than trained. It is designed to help them become confident, connected, and capable of enjoying life with the people who love them.
