Many Board and Train programs emphasize what a dog can do for the trainer. Residency™ focuses on what your dog can achieve with you. While a dog might learn skills in a facility, true success is realized when those skills transfer into everyday life — walking calmly through your neighborhood, settling amidst distractions, responding in public spaces, and reconnecting with the people they interact with daily.
Residency™ is designed for families seeking a comprehensive experience: immersive learning for the dog, clear education for the humans, and ongoing support after the dog returns home. We don't believe in sending a dog home with a list of commands and wishing the family good luck. At Connected Canine, connection comes first.

How Residency™ Works
Evaluation
Every Residency™ journey begins with an evaluation. We take time to learn about your dog, your goals, your current challenges, your home life, and what success looks like for your family. This helps us determine whether Residency™ is the right fit and what program length will best support your dog.
Custom Program Plan
Program length begins at one week and can be extended based on your dog's specific goals, behavior concerns, current skills, and the level of training required. Your dog's tailored plan may emphasize manners, leash skills, confidence, behavior modification, public skills, advanced obedience, impulse control, or a combination of these goals.
Immersive Training
Your dog benefits from a comprehensive experience that includes structured training, individualized care, enrichment, rest, and daily support. The focus is not on overwhelming your dog with constant drills but on fostering meaningful learning through consistency, thoughtful exposure, and relationship-based training.
Real-World Exposure
We do not limit training to a facility. Dogs practice essential skills in real-world environments — neighborhoods, parks, public spaces, pet-friendly areas, patios, stores, and other everyday environments. We prepare your dog for the life they will actually be returning to.
Go Home Lesson
Before your dog returns home, you will participate in a Go Home Lesson. This transfer session teaches you what your dog has learned, how to communicate clearly, maintain progress, and continue supporting your dog after graduation. Residency™ is not complete until the family understands how to move forward.
Homework and Follow-Up Support
After your dog returns home, you are not left on your own. Each session's homework is filmed so you can easily review what to practice. Follow-up lessons are included based on program length — typically one per week enrolled — plus unlimited call, text, and email support.
Lifetime Support
Families enrolled in Residency™ become part of the Connected Canine community. With access to free alumni classes and special events, you'll receive ongoing guidance from a trainer who already knows your dog's history, strengths, quirks, and training plan.
